I have been reading a few personal finance blogs (mymoneyblog.com, thesimpledollar.com, and freemoneyfinance.com) and noticed they all mention how if you downgrade or eliminate your cable TV you can save you a decent chunk of change. I started thinking about it, and talking about it with Stevie. We both agreed that it was something that we would at least try for awhile.
So I went online to research the options we had, since we use our cable company for Internet access (and that is one thing we both could not live without). I found that if we removed the TV portion of our bill Comcast would charge us $15 a month more for internet access. I then noticed that the basic cable plan was $8.90 a month. Heck, we can pay less and still get some TV channels. So I called up Comcast and got the plan changed.
It has been about two weeks, and I can’t say that I miss all the extra channels. Hopefully we can stick it out for the long haul and remove a decent part (about $450 a year) of our Comcast bill.
